Parent Category: 1 Day Parma Tours

Welcome to the largest labyrinth in the world!

Lose yourselves among the 7 hectares of bamboo trees of the Masone Labyrinth, designed by Parma publisher Franco Maria Ricci. Home to more than 500 works of art, entering the world's largest bamboo maze promises to be a real plunge into nature, art and beauty.

LABIRINTO FONTANELLATO tramonto 800x400

After 10 years of work, the Masone labyrinth of Franco Maria Ricci finally opened its doors, displayed over 7 hectares of land, entirely made of bamboo plants of different species.

The labyrinth boasts a unique path:  come in, get lost, reflect and dream.

The guided visit also includes the rooms of the adjacent museum which contains 400 pieces of the Art collection that Ricci began to gather more than fifty years ago. The library is also worth visiting: it contains the 1.200 books printed by Giambattista Bodoni along with 15 thousands volumes of art history. You can walk along the rooms used for the temporary exhibitions too. It is possible to admire the salon used as bistrot with its white barrel-vaulted coffered ceiling and its walls covered with books and the room Bodoni, perfect for gala evenings on a parquet made of bamboo.

In order to finance the project in Fontanellato, a few steps away from Parma, Ricci sold in 2004 his publishing company, which he then bought back and would like to bring back to life inside the buildings located at the heart of the Labyrinth.

DID YOU KNOW THAT...

THE MASONE LABYRINTH IS THE LARGEST BAMBOO LABYRINTH IN THE WORLD?

The labyrinth is a space where nature and culture get together covering an area of more than 5thousands mts squared. Why bamboo then?

Franco Maria Ricci chose it because other species need at least 20 years to grow enough to create a labyrinth. Bamboo grows quickly and allowed the labyrinth to open to the public as soon as possible.
